Caring for Country
Traditional owners are the traditional custodians of land and
sea country and hold cultural and traditional generational
knowledge spanning over 40,000 years. Traditional owner management
of natural resources is holistic and is underpinned by the concept
of ‘healthy country, healthy people’.
Traditional owners of land and sea country in the Region
launched "A
Caring for Country Plan" in 2005. The plan aims to empower
traditional owners to make informed decisions and become involved
in cultural heritage and natural resource management.
Active in our region
Traditional Owners have engaged and completed numerous
“Caring for Country” projects supported by Burdekin Dry
Tropics NRM such as: Women’s Business, Traditional Knowledge
Recording Programs, Cultural Heritage Education and Awareness,
Coastal revegetation.
