Fostering Community Engagement and Participation

This sub program seeks to inform, consult, involve, collaborate with and empower the broader community to address NRM issues and to take part in decision making regarding NRM within the Burdekin Dry Tropics Region. A range of activities will raise awareness, bring people together, share values and provide opportunities for increased participation in NRM activities and processes.

The broader community includes a range of stakeholders including local government, schools, NRM community groups, other organisations, industry and the general public.

Supporting an Effective and Resilient NRM Community

This subprogram seeks to support the development, coordination and empowerment of community based NRM organisations and groups and Traditional Owner groups within the Burdekin Dry Tropics Region  through a range of activities that build capacity, develop links with community and align effort.

The NRM community includes a wide range of community based organisations and groups and sixteen Traditional Owner Groups within the Burdekin Dry Tropics Region.

Valuing and Building Capacity For Traditional Owner Management of Land and Sea Country

This sub program seeks to support the achievement of real and measurable outcomes for Traditional Owners (TO’s) in the management of Land and Sea Country within the Burdekin Dry Tropics Region through a range of activities that build capacity to better engage, plan and implement natural resource management activities.

There are sixteen Traditional Owner Groups within the Burdekin Dry Tropics Region who will be informed, consulted, involved, collaborated with or empowered by this sub program. Support of a Traditional Owner Management Group (TOMG) also occurrs within this sub program. The sub program will also have influence into the broader community raising cultural awareness and promoting the value of traditional owner management of land and sea country.
