Our Financial Systems Manager, Odette Glisson, spotted the
Landcare logo on the 1994 version of our $1 coin. Odette is off to

coasts through awareness campaigns such as Coastcare Week and World
Environment Day and also unites businesses with volunteers and
community groups through corporate sponsorship of important
on-ground coastal environment projects. The Coastcare programme
alignes closely with work undertaken by regional natural resource
management groups by targeting activities at the local level. More
than 60,000 volunteers are working in over 2000 Coastcare groups
around the country. For more information visit the Coastcare

Climate change impact on business
The profits and assets of many of Australia's biggest companies
will be hard hit by climate change, with coalminers and oil
companies among those most at risk, according to analysis published
yesterday.Citigroup says carbon (generated when fossil fuels are
burnt) and the physical aspects of climate change offer
opportunities for some companies. "Companies that build early
awareness will be best placed to thrive," it says. Its top winners
included Investa Property Group, Origin Energy (which is attracting
customers by offering electricity generated from renewable sources
such as wind) and the recycler Sims Group.

Improving the NRM knowledge system for regions
Land & Water Australia’s Knowledge for Regional NRM
Program, funded through the Natural Heritage Trust, has been
investigating ways to help Australia’s 56 regional NRM bodies
find, use and share information and knowledge. The document
Improving the NRM knowledge system for regions outlines a range of
options the program has canvassed and is now available from the
Land & Water Australia website www.lwa.gov.au/regionalknowledge
Urban aspects of Australia State of the Environment
2006
According to the recently released Australia State of the
Environment 2006 report a major pressure on and of
Australia’s human settlements is in coastal regions near the
capital cities, where the population is growing faster than the
national average. This pressure is accentuated by increasing
consumption of energy, land, water and other products dependent on
natural resources. Wastes are increasing despite efforts at
recycling. A sustainable human environment requires greater
attention to urban design and a reduction in net consumption. In
some areas of Australia where pressures are high, progress has been
made in recognising the importance of urban form and
infrastructure; the challenge is implementing this insight.
