This half day seminar will feature presentation on best practice sustainable design for commercial buildings in the tropics. The seminar will inform and support the Townsville, Queensland Solar City project. When Wednesday 8 November 8am-1pm

4. 13 November Pest and Weed Project Funding Applications due

The deadline for funding applications ofr pest and weed control projects under the Blueprint for the Bush has been extended to November 13. Grants of up to $50,000 are available under the State Government’s $11 million, three year Reclaim the Bush Program. For more information go to www.nrm.qld.gov.au

5. 15 November Desert Uplands General Meeting

6. 17 November National McKell Medal

7. 4-10 December Coastcare Week

8. May 2007 Parks and Protected Areas Management Congress

9. Round 9 Envirofund

Round 8 Envirofund invested $20 million into 1,126 projects. Gerneral information and a sample application for the the nest round is at http://www.nht.gov.au/envirofund/ . The application form won’t be available until after xmas but potential applicants are urged to begin planning now.

10. Mock Orange Poisons Dogs and Cats

Mock Orange ( durata erecta ), a popular garden plant, was reported to have poisoned nine dogs and a cat in the Australian Veterinary Journal Volume 84 No 10 October 2006. The Journal also noted the potential for the plant toxins to harm children and suggested that D erecta plants for sale carry a mandatory warning label.

11. The Home WaterWise Rebate Scheme

The Home WaterWise Rebate Scheme is a comprehensive package of incentives offering householders cash rebates for a number of water-saving devices, has been introduced in two stages:

Stage one, implemented to start addressing the problem in South-East Queensland, offers rebates for products purchased on or between 13 June 2006 and 30 June 2009.

Stage two, which extends the program to include the entire state, offers rebates for products purchased on or between 16 August 2006 and 30 June 2009. For more information go to http://www.nrw.qld.gov.au/water/saverscheme/index.html
