Country Based Management Plans

The Burdekin Dry Tropics NRM, Southern Gulf Catchments and Desert Channels Queensland are collaborating with Yirendali Traditional Owners to develop a Country Based Management Plan (CBMP).

The purpose of the Yirendali CBMP is to address cultural and biological resource management issues for country and to align traditional resource practice and current NRM principles by:

  1. Undertaking informal consultation and formal community workshops for Yirendali Traditional Owners to reaffirm and re-engage their value system in relation to country.
  1. Developing a Country Based Management Plan document that reflects the importance of values and cultural patterns, and directs effort towards effective protection and long-term security of Yirendali values for country.

The objectivities of the Yirendali CBMP will complement existing natural resource and cultural heritage management activities. Implementation of the CBMP will increase the capacity of the Yirendali Traditional Owners to manage country; and maintain a wide range of ecosystem services.
