“When I first arrived in Townsville the airport
wasn’t much more than a tin shed. Townsville has
certainly changed since then, and so my professional interest has
broadened from raising awareness about this fantastic environment
to include managing change in our dynamic social and work
environments."
Deborah arrived in Townsville in 1985 to help set up the
education section of the Great Barrier Reef Aquarium (now Reef HQ).
Since then Deborah worked with the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park
Authority to establish Community Volunteer Programs in the
Whitsundays, Port Douglas and the Atherton Tablelands. She also
helped establish the Museum of Tropical Queensland Volunteer
Program. Over the years Deborah has also provided communications
support for CSIRO, AIMS, CRC Sugar and DPI&F.
Born in Canberra, Deborah studied for a Bachelor of Arts
and a Masters Degree in Anthropology at the University of British
Columbia, Vancouver, Canada. A keen artist, Deb also likes
kayaking and hiking and generally getting out and exploring the
tropics with family and friends.
