Burdekin Dry Tropics NRM (BDTNRM) is a community based,
not-for-profit company. It was established in 2002 to deliver
Natural Resource Management (NRM) activities and enhance the
community’s involvement in those issues throughout the
Burdekin Region.
This programme comes under the new Australian Government
Caring for Our Country
Programme, announced in March 2008. Caring for our Country will
commence on 1 July 2008 and will bring together delivery of a raft
of Commonwealth programs into an integrated package with one clear
goal, a business approach to investment, clearly articulated
outcomes and priorities and improved accountability.
BDTNRM was originally part of the Howard Government's National Action Plan for Salinity
and Water Quality (2000) and the Natural
Heritage Trust Extension (1997). They were
established in partnership with State Governments, to address
the declining condition of natural resources in Australia.
The long-term objectives of these programs are to halt and
reverse the decline in the condition of Australia's natural
resources. The long term success of NRM activities depends on
the successful involvement of all sectors of the community.
BDTNRM Board members are drawn from traditional owner groups,
local government, the sciences and appointed by community
members.
Burdekin Solutions Ltd. , trading as BDTNRM, has two State
Government advisors; an Australian Government advisor; and, a Great
Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority advisor.
Membership in Burdekin Solutions Ltd. is open to the
community.
